The company I work for has an annual golf outing during the summer, for all employees. Up until a few years ago, the only employees who went were the men, which make up the majority of my company. Since those of us who did not golf had to stay at work for the day, we decided a few years ago that, even though none of us really knew how to golf, we would participate and enjoy the day.
Since I didn’t have clubs of my own, I borrowed some from a co-worker who had not golfed with them in years. I had no idea what the numbers on the club stood for. I only was familiar with the driver and with the putter.
Well, we were grouped into teams of 4 and played “best ball”. The men I was teamed with were all golfers, to one degree or another. Throughout the entire 18 holes, I had more “wiffs” than hits, but the times when I did connect and watched the ball just sail down the course, it was exhilarating! When we finished the 18th hole, I was tired and sore, mostly from “wiffing” on the ball so much! Ha! I instantly had a feeling of, “Hey, I can play this game!” I was instantly hooked.
This year, I finally joined a women’s golf organization, EWGA, in Milwaukee and signed up for 2 leagues as well as some group lessons. It was a wonderful experience and, now that I have started this website, I hope to participate in more “networking” within the organization.
So, that’s my how my “love affair with golf” started. I hope you enjoyed it and will feel free to make comments and stop back to participate in future discussions!
